Go-Kart

A pull-back Go-Kart with its own First Friends Racing Driver. Pull the kart backwards, let go and it speeds across the floor, or push it along freely by hand. The driver lifts out and sits back in, and has a squeaking tummy and clicking head, arms and legs. Children chase, retrieve and race it, adding engine noises and racing stories as they play. At home it plays in the living room; in a nursery or classroom it is made for group play.

How to play and learn

Written by Tolo for parents and early-years staff: what to do with the toy, and what the child is learning while doing it.

1–5 YEARS
1Introduce your child to the First Friends driver and his racing go-kart.
2Let your child explore the toy independently but if necessary - demonstrate the character's moving, clicking parts and show your them how the driver fits into his go-kart
3Show your baby that the toy moves and encourage your child to push it along the ground and crawl after it.
4Now show your baby how to pull back the vehicle and watch it race across the floor. Encourage movement to retrieve it
5Imitate the sounds a go-kart might make on the racing track and praise your baby for any effort made to join in.
18 MONTHS +
6Show your child how to place the driver in the go-kart.
7Encourage them to do it by themselves and to either push the toy along the floor, or pull back to make it spring into action.
8Encourage your child to chase after it.
9Talk with your older child about the go-kart - What does it do? Where would you see one?
10Talk about the appearance of the go-kart and it's driver - e.g. what colour is it? How many wheels has it got?
11Introduce younger children to new language such as steering wheel, headlights, horn, race etc
12Imitate the sound effects of a go-kart and encourage your baby to do the same - ‘brum brum, beep beep’
13Relate the toy to pictures or real go-karts and show your baby the similarities between the two
14Encourage your child to use their imagination to play. Let your child take the lead but help with ideas if necessary.
15You may like to bring in other Tolo characters, vehicles and accessories to help your child create a colourful and imaginative world!
